I've Been Thrifting

Woot woot! I've been Thrifting.

I love Thrifting! Seriously, it is so exciting for me. Makes me feel like I am saving money, getting craft items, and recycling all in one fabulous place!

So Charly's birthday is coming up and I have started shopping for items. I will post about the projects and theme a little later. I'll let you stew a bit about it.

I let the kids come up with their theme and then I just run with it. SUPER FUN!

What do you think? Can you guess? Oooooh, I am so stoked to plan this party.

Ok, ok, a little sneak peak!

So stay tuned and I will share later what type of party is in store!

The Kids New Bed

A Super Fun Loft Playhouse Bed...

So my husband has been working in a project for the kids. An new playhouse bed.

The kids are super fired up and so am I. We can't wait for it to be finished but here are some pics of the progress.

We got the plans from Ana White's site.  Here is the direct link to the plans for this bed.  (We are also doing the add on storage stairs.)  I don't know if you have made anything from her but she is Fabulous! We have her book too! There a several projects in there that will be on the 'honey to make for me' list too.

As slow as the girls think it is coming, really he is doing a great job putting it together in off hours.

We let the kids pick the colors and this is what they came up with.  I was a little leary that it was going to be too dark but I caved and thought, 'it's theirs.  Let them have it.' And I am so glad I did!  I think the colors are great, perfect, no, they are phenomenal.  And they decided on a pale yellow for the walls.  What!  How fabulous will that look?

Like I said, we are super excited for the finished product! Soon, soon.

I'll post about it again when it's finished, I promise!

Fun at Fairmont Hot Springs

Fairmont Vacation

First, I have to say I am sorry for the incredible lack of posts the last week or two.  Our house has been crazy, a serious mad house, incredibly busy between my wokr schedule, my husbands work schedule, the kids being sick, and really I don't know what else happened because I lost track after all that.

The last few weeks have been brutal for my poor husband at work and he needed a break.  So we decided to go to the local hot springs.  It was about a 2 1/2 hour drive to get there but oh, so worth it!

The kids had an absolute blast!  We swam for 2 1/2 days straight.  Really that is all there is to do around there, there are a couple of small towns near by and we did go bowling on Saturday but aside from that, nothing but swimming.

Seriously, this is all we did, all weekend!

ALL WE DID!

The kids had a blast, and it was a fabulous get away for us too.

They even had a little petting zoo.  Not much but a couple of goats, a few sheep and miniature horse.

The kids loved it, they got to feed the animals before we left and they where in heaven.

And then they slept!

Reusable Snack Bags

DIY Reusable Fabric Snack Bags

So, yesterday the kids had some friends over for a play date and their mother and I also got to have a craft date.  You can not believe how excited I was to have a friend to craft with!

She had purchased some reusable snack bags with a nice liner but we decided that just a plain cotton one would work just as well if you are not going to put anything liquid or juicy in there, right?

So, here is what we did...

take a scrap of fabric and cut it down to about 7 1/2 in x 20 in

Place right sides together,

 and sew around 3 sides,

leaving one end open to flip it right side out.

fold over the open end twice and sew the hem shut.

now fold the entire strip in half with the side you will want on the inside, out.
(see, here I wanted purple to be on the inside, stripes out)

fold the hemmed edge under about 2 inches so you will have about a 2 inch flap up also

now sew around 3 edges, starting at the fold, up over the fold, around the top, and down the other long side.  This will give it a finished look as well close the sides.

flip it right side out and DONE!

Ta-Da, don't you just love it?  We were super excited, I made several and Charly was excited to take it to school today too!  Pretty sure I will be making these for everyone.

Daddy Daughter Dance

Daddy Daughter Dance

I have to say I was so excited to hear they were going to have a Daddy Daughter Dance at the elementary school for the kids.  Did you ever have one when you were a kid?  I remember going to at least one, although I don't remember it being a school function.  None the less, I remember getting all excited and getting dressed up and everything.

And yes, this is how my daughter dresses all the time.  Jeans, leggings on the outside, and usually a skirt and shirt rather than a christmas dress, but that is a post for another day.

They danced, they sang, they had a blast.  She came home all excited because they had lemonade and cookies.  And I was soooooo happy for her!  These pictures were sent to me by one of the other mothers in the class because I, :(, couldn't be there.  I had to work that night, although maybe it was better that I wasn't there because I would have wanted pictures of everything and it was a special night just for them.

Maybe...

Anyway, did you ever have a daddy daughter date night?  I think they are important, they will mean the world to her when she grows up, gets older, gets bigger, I can't seem to find the right words.  They are all wrong, she's not going to grow up, right?

Easy Class Valentines

DIY Class Valentines

Holy Cow!  I can't believe it's already Valentines Day!  Seriously though, can you believe it?  I wanted to do something fun for Charly's class Valentines but not too involved and here is what I found.  I got these printables and printed them on glossy photo paper.  (I found them on Pinterest, umm, where else would you find such wonderful things?)  There were so many great ideas out there and tons of free printables, for some of my favorites see my pinterest Valentines Ideas page.

Soooooooooo, aren't they soooooooo cute?  Don't you just love them?

Then I filled a ziploc with sweedish fish, had her sign her name, 22 times,  and done!

Can't get much easier than that, can it?  Almost as easy as buying a box but cuter and cheeper!

Baby Wipes

DIY Baby Wipes

I must confess, I never made these when the kids were still in diapers.  I just bought them.  Hey, it was quicker and easier and I feel a little like a sell out right now but I was in a different place.

BUT..........

Now that I can, I really wanted to make some of these because I like to keep them in the car.  They are prefect for cleaning fingers and faces, wiping up spills on road trips, or for that emergent stop on the side of the road potty break.  Soooooooo, what I'm saying is that I have been buying them ever since I had babies in the house and I wanted to try my hand at making them.  I have seen the tuts and reicpes all over the place, I just hadn't done it yet....  so here we are!

Easy peasy everyone, just sayin'.

Here is all you will need:
  • 2 cups water
  • paper towel roll
  • 2 Tbsp baby oil
  • 1/2 Tbsp baby shampoo (or other childrens shampoo)

Cut your paper towel roll and cut it in half.  (I did not see the bit on the tuts about not using a serrated knife until after I did it.  Just thinking it may make less of a mess.)

Now measure out your water and add your shampoo and baby oil.

mix it all up...

Pour it on top of your half of paper towel roll.  (Remember, you will be saving the other half for next time, or making a double batch.)

Once you have poured the water mixture on top the center cardboard roll will come out quite easily.

and start pulling from the center!

Ta-Da!  Like I said, I like to have them in the car so I put them in a ziplock bag so they would fit nice in the glove box but if you are going to use them in the house you can put the wipes in a little nicer container.  Or keep them in a ziplock, whatever really.
