Swim Suit Cover for the Kids

DIY Bleach Splash Swim Suit Cover

I saw this idea on Pinterest for adults.  When I was making them it dawned on me that it was not going to fit me but decided to alter just slightly so they would fit the girls!

All you will need is an old t-shirt from the back of the closet and bleach.

First place your shirt in an area that you don't mind getting bleach on...

And splash away...

Some of it will take about an hour to change color completely and others will change almost immediately.  Give it time to dry completely before adding more bleach, you can always add, you can't take away...

Then cut the neckline and sleeves off.  I cut a little deeper on the first one thinking it might be for me but being for the kids I wouldn't cut as much out, same with the arm holes.

Then take one of the strips that you cut out and tie the back sleeves together.  Slide the tie almost to the shoulder seams.  This will pull it down in the back but make it just the right size for little ones.  I also added ties to the front of the cover.  I wouldn't do this for myself but again, it made it look more their size.  (2nd tie goes between the neckline and sleeve.)

And done!  Super cute bathing suit covers for the kids!

Travel Art Case

Travel Art Case

I don't know about you but we do a lot, I mean a LOT of traveling.  My kids really road trip like champs.  Not that I can take ALL the blame for keeping them occupied, they do a pretty good job, plus the DVD player helps a TON!  But I try and keep things in the car to keep everyone happy too, like art supplies...

Here is how you can keep them in a nice concise package.

use a DVD case!  Genius, right!  Not that I am the first one to think of this, I have seen it all over Pinterest.  But, here is what I did...

All you need is an old DVD case...
And some cute paper.

Measure your paper with the original insert.  (do you ever wonder what happens to the DVD?  I do, seriously, where do they go, its like the lost socks of the house.)

 See, fits like a dream,
Write whatever you would like to on the cover then slide it under the front plastic.

Now it is time for the demolition of that circle piece in the middle.

I found that a pair of kitchen sheers worked great for cutting out the middle.

Now fill with your favorite art supplies!  We make our own crayons and I found that they fit perfectly in the case but I thought colored pencils would work just as well.

If you water to glue a couple of pockets in that would work great too.  I just ran out of time before we left.

Happy quiet time in the car!

Writable Cutting Boards

DIY Writable Cutting Boards

My mom makes her own cheese and I saw this on Pinterest and just had to make her one, or two.  You know, you have to have a variety.

All you are going to need is:

chalk board paint in the color of your choice,

A small paint brush

an old cutting board

Paint your cutting board with the chalk board paint,

Wait at least an hour and paint again, (it will probably need a couple coats)

Now wait 24 hours to let it cure,

Then rub with a piece of chalk to 'season' it.

Now display your stuff!  In our case its super delicious homemade cheese!  Nomnomnom!

Happy Cutting board making,
-Sarah

DIY Taggie Blankets

Baby Gifts....

I don't know what happened but it seems like everyone is pregnant this summer and I have about 100 gifts to get together (well, thats what it feel lisle at least)!  So I thought I would throw together some of these taggie blankets I have seen around so much.

Neither of my girls had one but they both rub the one tag on their 'lovies' until they fall asleep.  So it proved to me that there must be something to this taggie thing.

They are pretty easy to make, just find a couple small scraps of fabric and several different ribbons...

Pin the ribbon all around the edges  of the right side of the fabric with the loops facing inward toward the middle.  This is important, you will be turning it right side out later and if you place them the wrong way they will be on the inside.

Sew the two pieces of fabric together, right sides together.  Don't forget to leave an opening to turn it around.

after you sew around all the edges clip the corners, this keeps the corners from being too bulky and makes it easier to have sharp corners on the right side.

Now flip it right side out and sew around the entire edge.  This will sew the opening shut as well as add a nice finished edge.

Ta-Da!!!  See, done, so easy, you can make this in less than an hour.  And your friends will love it!

Happy sewing!

DIY bathtub paint

Bathtub Art

Have your kids ever played with bathtub paint?  If they haven't they will LOVE it.  I mean not just love it but L-O-V-E it!  Mine have spent countless hours in the tubby with that magical stuff.

Soooooooooooo, would you like to know how to make this fabulous stuff?

DIY Bathtub Paint

Lets go:

First you will need:

1 cup shampoo (baby shampoo is best for their sensitive skin)

1/2 cup corn starch

any food coloring you like

mix ingredients together...

Start with the corn starch,

Add the food coloring,
Finally the soap,
Mix together and viola!

It will be thick, let it stay that way as when the kiddos start painting they will get water in the cups and it will thin it quite a bit.

Now put it in the bathroom for your next tubbie time!

They kids really get a kick out of it.  And it is super easy to wash down the drain.  (Added bonus, the water gets bubbles and they turn fun colors when they wash it off the walls!)

See, super easy and they will think you are super mom!  Well, if they don't then I will! :)

Happy Painting everyone,
-Sarah

Homemade sidewalk chalk paint

Sidewalk Paint

I don't know about your kids but mine like, LOVE to color on the sidewalk.  I have purchased sidewalk paint for them in the past but it never seems to last long enough.  They used it up so quickly and it was kind of expensive soooooooo.........

I thought, why not make my own, right?!?

I have seen it on pinterest a few times and thought I better try it.  Check out my boards for others that have tried it.  I used a recipe from Pink and Green Mama.  If you have never checked out her site, please do, it is a wonderful site for ideas of things to do with the kids!

so, without further ado, here is the recipe!

DIY Sidewalk Paint

Ingredients:
  • Corn starch
  • food coloring
  • water

We used a cupcake pan, made it easier to move the colors around, then you can make as many colors as you want!

Put some corn starch in each cup

Add your food coloring (to get different colors I just added different amounts of each of the 4 colors. Mix and match, have fun with it)

True, you are not going to know what the color is going to look like until you mix in the water but it was easier for me to add the food coloring first then add the water when I got outside, then I didn't have to try not to spill the water!

Add the water when you get outside and there you have it.  Homemade sidewalk paint.

You can see there are additional kids in this pic....

CAUTION:  It will attract the neighbors kids!

The kids loved it!  They had so much fun painting the driveway.

And no worries, it will wash away with the next rain.

Happy coloring!

Fabric and Ribbon Pendant Tutorial

Fabric and Ribbon Decorative Pendant

I know I posted about pendants before but I wanted to show you that you don't have to make them out of paper either.  You can make them with whatever medium you want.  Like this one for my entryway. Fabric and ribbon.

So these are just as easy as the ones I made for the Tangled Party only they are fabric instead of paper.  Just Pick out your favorite fabric, cut into pendants, pick a coordinating ribbon and, viola!

Done!  So easy!

See, I made them for the Wizard of Oz Party too!

And now they are chillin' in the entryway...  See!
So, just like before, all you have to do is grab your stapler, Pick your favorite ribbon, it doesn't have to be thin either. The ribbons I used for the Wizard of Oz party and for this one in the entry way are about 2 inch thick fabric ribbons.

Staple together and done.

See?

However you want to make it, fabric, ribbon, paper

whatever!

LOVE IT!  Change it for any season! Or every party!

Happy decorating!

Spiced Blueberry Jam

Blueberries....  EVERYWHERE...

So obviously I had a few blueberries.  I really love blueberries.  They are sooooooo wonderful and full of antioxidants and everything else that is wonderful in life...  The kids one them too.  Usually we go blueberry picking every year but it is not quite time for that yet.  Soon my pretties, very soon!

So I wanted to make all sorts of wonderful things to have blueberries all through the season.

Soooooooo,  I made a frozen blueberry pie to save for later, and now I want blueberry jam.  But not just any blueberry jam, I wanted something really special, something that will knock your socks off!  So we spiced it up a bit and you are really going to LOVE it!  (If you were in my head I sang that to you!)

Spiced Blueberry Jam

3 cups bluberries
3 Tbsp low to no sugar pectin
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground ginger
2 Tbsp lemon juice
3 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup water

Place blueberries in pot.

Sprinkle pectin, nutmeg, and ground ginger over the top.

Add lemon juice and vinegar.

When liquid starts to simmer start mashing berries.  Allow to come to a boil, add sugar and water.

Mix thoroughly, allow to come to a complete HARD boil for 1 minute.

Remove from heat and cool for 10-15 minutes.

Place in prepared jars and water bath for 10 minutes.

Let cool on wire rack until all the lids 'pop'.

Now, here comes my favorite part,

take the rest of the jam leftover in the pot,

throw in some nuts of choice,

stir around

and eat!

Oh, yummy.  So very delicious!

Happy Jammin' everyone (That's right, I went there)
